About Our School

Akita Minami High school was founded in 1962.

The academy consists of Junior High school and Senior High school with 240 and 707 students.

Our school motto is "Independence  and  Self-Respect".

It is called "Dokuritsu-Jison", in Japanese.

This is a famous phrase once said by the renowned Yukichi Fukuzawa.
It expresses the importance of maintaining one’s independence, self-respect and dignity. This phrase continues to be carried on today.

Akita Minami High school is the perfect match for students who want to study hard, be active in club activities and make their dreams come true.  We have great facilities to support students to do this. For example, we have an extensive athletic facility with a big baseball field and a multipurpose field for soccer and rugby. It also includes a 300m running track, four tennis courts, a judo ring, a kendo ring, and a gymnasium with three basketball courts. In addition, there is a well-equipped laboratory and music room made with special adjustments to improve acoustics.

The 50-minute advanced classes are energized through the cooperation of expert educators (Physical, English), dedicated teachers, and eager students.

In term of guidance for future courses, we counsel based on our abundant past experience and on the students’ individual needs.

One of the advantages of Minami High School is access to a variety of opportunities for club and student council activities.

In 2016, Minami High School launched the 6-Year Combined Education System. We raise students who, while respecting traditional Japanese culture, aspire to work in a globalized society and contribute to the peace and advancement of the international community.
