Super Global High School Project (SGH)
Akita Minami High School was appointed a Super Global High School by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) in 2015.
A global leader is a person who has a strong will to actively participate at the forefront of the world and has a broad perspective. We believe that these leaders will spearhead the development of a better world. Specifically, we are trying to nurture youth who have 1) problem-identifying skills, 2) research skills, 3) logical-thinking skills, 4) presentation skills, 5) practical skills. To help students acquire these skills we provide a special subject called “Global Research”.
We chose the “global food problem” as our project theme because it is a global problem very familiar to the people of Akita. We also selected Australia as our field work site. Australia is one of Japan’s major importing countries for food and thus suitable for our research. Australia gives us many opportunities to think about food problems because of its high food self-support ratio, intensive farming, industrialized farming with technology, problems with drought and climate change. This is why we chose Australia as our field work location.
Through their research, students strive to reflect what they have learned in their daily lives and acquire practical capabilities and a strong sense of purpose.
